How the sequel almost leaked

The unused tag showed elite acolytes gathering at a convention center. Two couples walk into a ballroom packed with Le Bail followers. That scene would have signaled a far larger world for the Le Domas family.

Gillett said the seed of the mythology lived in that tag. It helped inspire the expanded story now on screen. Bettinelli-Olpin added they originally treated the first film as one-and-done.

Plot and returning characters

The 2019 original starred Samara Weaving as Grace. On her wedding night, she learned her new family were wealthy satanists. She survived their night hunt for “Mr. Le Bail.”

The sequel resumes immediately after that victory. Grace is forced back into the deadly game. She is joined by her estranged sister Faith, played by Kathryn Newton.

Gellar reportedly revisits a stake-wielding sequence that echoes her past TV work. Gillett recalled the crew gathering around monitors for the blood-cannon shots. He singled out a moment when Sam and Catherine get drenched.

Kathryn Newton noted the messy reality of those scenes. She said being splattered with goo produced honest reactions. The blood cannon sees far more use than in the original film.
