Geelong Standoff: Duo Arrested After Stolen Vehicle Pursuit

Authorities in Geelong have arrested two individuals following a dramatic pursuit involving a stolen vehicle. The incident unfolded when the police air unit located a stolen Kia Optima at approximately 3:40 PM, near the intersection of Princes Highway and Roebuck Street in Newtown.

Details of the Pursuit

Victoria Police attempted to intercept the stolen vehicle, which then reversed into a bus near Matthew Flinders College in a bid to escape. During the incident, the suspects allegedly discharged a firearm and subsequently collided with another vehicle.

Arrests and Injuries

A man and a woman, both aged 37 and from New South Wales, fled the scene on foot but were apprehended nearby. The male suspect sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his arm and required hospitalization under police guard. The female suspect also received care for minor injuries.

Additionally, the female driver of the civilian vehicle involved in the collision was taken to the hospital with minor injuries as well.

Investigation Underway

The Armed Crime Squad detectives are conducting an investigation into the incident, with oversight from the Professional Standards Command, which is standard when police firearms are discharged. It has been reported that the vehicle was stolen in New South Wales.
