Red Sox Secure Tayron Guerrero in Minor League Agreement

The Boston Red Sox have signed reliever Tayron Guerrero to a minor league contract that includes an invitation to MLB spring training. This agreement was first reported by Andrew Parker of Sox Prospects earlier this month. Guerrero returns to affiliated baseball after spending the 2025 season playing in Japan.

Tayron Guerrero’s Career Background

Guerrero, standing at an impressive 6’8”, previously joined the Chiba Lotte Marines on two occasions: once in 2022 and again last season. However, his performance in 2025 was less than stellar, with a 6.41 ERA over 19 and two-thirds innings in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB). Because of this, he primarily played for the team’s minor league affiliate.

Major League Experience

The Colombian-born pitcher last competed in Major League Baseball (MLB) in 2019. Throughout his MLB career, he accumulated 106 innings, registering a 5.77 earned run average. In Triple-A, Guerrero has allowed an average of seven earned runs per nine innings across 117 innings.

Guerrero’s Pitching Style

Guerrero’s exceptional velocity has caught the attention of various teams. He consistently throws his fastball at an average speed of 99 MPH. However, his command has often been a concern, limiting his effectiveness on the mound.

What Lies Ahead for Guerrero

As the Red Sox prepare for the upcoming season, Guerrero will compete for a spot during spring training. While it may be unlikely that he secures an Opening Day roster position, demonstrating his skills in exhibition games and at Triple-A Worcester could lead to a midseason opportunity.
