Jesse Minter Withdraws from Cleveland Browns Head Coach Search

The Cleveland Browns’ search for a new head coach has taken an unexpected turn. Defensive coordinator Jesse Minter has officially withdrawn from consideration for the role. This decision came as Minter aims to pursue coaching opportunities with other teams.

Details on Jesse Minter’s Withdrawal

Minter was initially set for a second interview with the Browns. However, recent reports indicate that he believes his prospects for a head coaching position are stronger with different organizations. Minter has already completed second interviews with teams such as the Las Vegas Raiders and Baltimore Ravens.

Other Coaching Developments

In addition to Minter, former Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel also withdrew from the Browns’ search. He canceled his scheduled interview to accept the offensive coordinator position with the Los Angeles Chargers.

Finalists for the Browns Head Coach Position

The withdrawal of both candidates leaves four finalists for the head coach position:

  • Jim Schwartz – Current defensive coordinator for the Browns
  • Todd Monken – Offensive coordinator for the Ravens
  • Grant Udinski – Offensive coordinator for the Jaguars
  • Nate Scheelhaase – Pass game coordinator for the Rams

In compliance with the Rooney Rule, the Browns must also interview an additional diverse candidate, aside from Scheelhaase.

Interviews and Future Prospects

Following Minter’s withdrawal, the Browns have scheduled interviews with Udinski on Friday. Scheelhaase will be interviewed after the NFC Championship Game.

Schwartz and Monken, both 59, remain strong contenders for the role. Schwartz recently held his second interview earlier in the week. If he does not secure the head coach position, there are discussions about whether he would continue as the defensive coordinator.

Schwartz’s Coaching Background

Jim Schwartz is the only remaining finalist with head coaching experience, boasting a record of 29-51 with the Detroit Lions from 2009 to 2013. Post-Lions, he found success with the Philadelphia Eagles, contributing to a Super Bowl victory after the 2017 season. Under his guidance, the Browns have developed one of the top defenses in the NFL.

As the head coach search progresses, Cleveland fans and analysts alike will be monitoring the developments closely. This dynamic coaching landscape continues to evolve as teams finalize their decisions.
