Ford has announced a recall of over 100,000 vehicles due to serious fire risk concerns. This action addresses potential mechanical issues related to the engine block heaters across several models.
Details of the Recall
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported that these engine block heaters could overheat, leading to short circuits. Such a malfunction significantly increases the risk of fires under the vehicle’s hood.
Vehicles Affected
The total number of vehicles recalled stands at 116,672. The affected models include:
- 2013-2019 Ford Escape
- 2013-2018 Ford Focus
- 2015-2016 Lincoln MKC
Symptoms of Defective Block Heaters
Owners can identify problematic block heaters by observing certain symptoms:
- Coolant spots on the garage or driveway floor
- Loss of cabin heat
- Overheating powertrain unit
- Low coolant level warning indicator
Additional Recall of Engine Block Heaters
In a related recall, Ford also identified 2,633 engine block heaters made between October 7, 2011, and January 8, 2026. These heaters can be recognized by part numbers:
- CV6Z-6A051-CA
- CV6Z-6A051-AA
Remedy and Notification Process
Ford plans to notify affected vehicle owners by mail regarding the recall. They are advised to take their vehicles to authorized Ford or Lincoln service dealers for a replacement of the defective engine block heater once available. This service will be provided free of charge. Notification letters will start being sent on February 9 and will continue into April.
