Marking a Decade: Fundraisers Honor Buncrana Pier Tragedy Anniversary

March 20, 2024, marks a significant milestone as it commemorates the 10th anniversary of the Buncrana Pier tragedy. This heart-wrenching event claimed the lives of five family members, including Sean McGrotty and his two young sons, Mark and Evan. Joining them in tragedy were Ruth Daniels and her daughter, Jodie Lee. The only survivor was Ríoghnach-Ann McGrotty, who was just four months old at the time.

On that fateful day, the family’s vehicle slipped into Lough Swilly from a slipway. In a desperate act of heroism, Davitt Walsh swam out to help the family, receiving Ríoghnach-Ann just moments before the SUV submerged.

Commemorative Walk to Honor Lives Lost

To honor the memory of Sean, Mark, Evan, Jodie, and Ruth, the community is invited to participate in a remembrance walk. This event aims to unite friends, family, and supporters as they reflect on the tragedy and appreciate the emergency services who responded that night.
