Brooklyn Shooting: Suspect Charged in Infant’s Death, Second Manhunt Ongoing

A 7-month-old baby was killed on a Williamsburg sidewalk Wednesday afternoon. Police said the child was in a stroller when a man on a moped fired at a group.

Attack and immediate aftermath

The shooting occurred near Moore and Humboldt streets at about 1:21 p.m. The victim, identified as Kaori Patterson–Moore of Clinton Hill, was struck in her stroller.

She was taken by private means to New York City Health and Hospitals/Woodhull. Hospital staff pronounced her deceased.

Suspect, charges and manhunt

NYPD identified Amari Green, 21, as the shooter. He will be charged with murder and two counts of attempted murder.

Authorities said surveillance showed the moped leaving the Bushwick Houses minutes before the shooting. The escaping scooter crashed two blocks away into an oncoming car.

Both men were thrown from the moped. Police recovered the rear passenger’s shoes at the crash site.

Police said a 911 call and EMS records indicate the moped passenger was taken to The Brooklyn Hospital Center. He was held in custody for an unrelated probe.

Investigators continue to search for the moped’s driver. He is described wearing light gray pants, a white T-shirt and a black surgical mask.

Evidence and scene

Officials released surveillance photos of two suspects. Video and images show the shooter firing at least two rounds.

The shots were directed at a corner where several adults and two strollers were standing. Several children were nearby.

Official statements

Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch called the killing unspeakable. She said she could not imagine the family’s grief.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani described the loss as devastating. He said a life that had barely begun was taken instantly.

March continued the trend. The city reported the fewest murders and shooting incidents for a first quarter since recordkeeping began.

Citywide, there were 54 murders in the first quarter of 2026. That beat the prior low of 60 murders set in 2018.

There were 139 shooting incidents in the quarter. That number tied the all-time low of 139 set in 2025.

This Brooklyn shooting prompted swift charges and an active search. A suspect charged in the infant’s death faces prosecution, and a second manhunt is ongoing.
