Morgan Kohan, Chad Michael Murray Celebrate Collaboration on CTV’s Sullivan’s Crossing

In a phone interview, Morgan Kohan and Chad Michael Murray celebrated their collaboration on CTV’s Sullivan’s Crossing. Both praised filming on Canada’s East Coast and the cast chemistry. The location, they said, has become part of the show’s identity.

Setting and production

The drama is set in the fictional town of Timberlake, Nova Scotia. Production uses real communities around Halifax.

Filming locations include Halifax, Hubbards, Sackville, Mount Uniake, and Mi’kmaq First Nations territories. Kohan said most shoots occur within a forty-minute radius of Halifax.

The series adapts novels by Robyn Carr. The same production team worked on the Netflix series Virgin River.

A season contains ten episodes. Each season takes roughly four to four and a half months to complete.

Plot and principal cast

The story follows neurosurgeon Maggie Sullivan. After upheaval in Boston, she returns to Sullivan’s Crossing, her childhood campground run by her estranged father, Sully.

There, Maggie meets newcomer Cal Jones. Chad Michael Murray plays Cal. Morgan Kohan portrays Maggie.

New season additions

Season four adds several cast members. Newcomers include Jonathan Silverman, Glenn Gold, Colby Frost, Marcus Rosner, Emerson McNeil, and Fuad Ahmed.

They join series regulars Tom Jackson and Andrea Menard. Marcus Rosner appears as Liam, Maggie’s ex-husband. His arrival creates tension for Cal’s character.

Actors on filming in Canada

Kohan described the East Coast scenery as magical. She praised the local community, humour, and landscape.

Murray noted his strong ties to Canada through work and travel. He grew up in Buffalo and joked he is “as Canadian as an American can get.”

He named Keanu Reeves and Jim Carrey among his favourite Canadian actors. Murray has snowboarded in Whistler and visited Edmonton and Toronto.

Kohan grew up in Summerland, British Columbia. Her first union job was on CBC’s Murdoch Mysteries. She also grew up listening to Alanis Morissette.

Reception and broadcast

Season four premiered on March 22. Fremantle sold the series into more than 180 international territories.

The show debuted at number three on the Netflix Global English TV Top 10 list. It also airs in the United States on The CW.

In Canada, new episodes air Sundays at 8 p.m. on CTV and stream the following day on Crave. The cast has expressed pride in the series’ global reach and family-friendly tone.
