SEC Champion, Ex-Alabama Athlete to Lead WWE’s ‘WrestleMania’

Isaac Odugbesan, a former Alabama track standout, will feature in a main event at WWE’s ‘WrestleMania’ this weekend. Now known in the ring as Oba Femi, he faces Brock Lesnar Sunday night, April 19, in Las Vegas.

A native of Lagos, Nigeria, Odugbesan joined Alabama before the 2019–20 season. He transferred after a freshman year at Middle Tennessee State.

College career

At Middle Tennessee State he won the 2019 Conference USA shot put title. In his first season with Alabama, he placed fourth at the 2020 SEC indoor championships.

As a junior in 2020–21, he captured both SEC indoor and outdoor shot put titles. The outdoor victory was Alabama’s first conference crown in the event since 1980.

He earned outdoor Second Team All-American honors in 2021. As a senior in 2022, he won a third SEC indoor title with a school-record throw of 20.71 meters.

Professional rise

Odugbesan signed with WWE in 2021 as part of the company’s inaugural Next In Line class. He performs under the ring name Oba Femi and is a two-time NXT champion.

His progression has turned this SEC Champion and ex-Alabama athlete into a headliner. The former Crimson Tide standout is now set to lead WWE’s ‘WrestleMania’ matchup on the card.

He will meet Brock Lesnar, a veteran who has held championships in the NCAA, UFC and WWE. Lesnar remains one of wrestling’s most high-profile competitors.

Event details

WrestleMania 42 is a two-day show at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. Oba Femi’s match is scheduled for Sunday, April 19.
