Pistons’ Home Playoff Win Sunday Means ‘Everything,’ Fans Claim
Fans gathered outside Little Caesars Arena on a cold afternoon before Game 1 of the 2026 first-round series against the Orlando Magic. A fan fest offered basket shooting, free swag, and face painting while supporters waited for tipoff.
Many fans said a Pistons’ home playoff win Sunday would mean “everything” to them. The sentiment summed up long-held hopes for a postseason breakthrough at home.
Historic drought at home
Detroit has not recorded a home playoff victory since May 26, 2008. That date marks a 94-75 Game 4 win over the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals.
Since then, the Pistons have failed to win a home game in several opening-round exits. They lost opening-round series to Cleveland in 2009 and 2016, and to Milwaukee in 2019. Last season the team won two road games against the New York Knicks but dropped the series 4-2, again without a home victory.
Voices from outside the arena
Eleven-year-old Kenden Taylor traveled from Toledo. He missed a soccer match to attend his first playoff game.
Kenden’s father, Kenny, his mother, Thai, and his nine-year-old brother, Karson, made the drive together. Kenden told reporters that a home playoff victory would mean everything.
Indigo Zuri of Detroit arrived early at the Comerica entrance. She said last year’s loss to the Knicks still stung, but she remained confident heading into Game 1.
John Talos of Chesterfield brought his seven-year-old son, John. Talos said the team needed center Jalen Duren to play well for Detroit to succeed.
Susan Jenkin and her daughter Morgan Riddle flew in from Seattle. Jenkin once lived in Michigan, in Ypsilanti and the Upper Peninsula. Riddle said she grew up a Pistons fan despite never living in the state.
Outlook and expectations
Riddle predicted a deep playoff run and mentioned the team’s top seed status. She said pressure comes with being No. 1, but added the Pistons often thrive under pressure.
Jenkin said determination would be the key to victory. Fans hoped the energy from the crowd could help produce Detroit’s elusive home playoff win.
