Kia, Genesis Recall 235,000 Cars Over Potential Fuel Line Leaks

Kia and Genesis are recalling 235,792 vehicles over concerns about potential fuel line leaks. Documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration show related recalls submitted on April 10.

Scope of the recall

The action affects select Kia and Genesis vehicles equipped with a 3.5-liter V-6. The two brands will contact owners directly for inspections and repairs.

Model Units Model Years
Kia Carnival 141,032 2022–2026
Genesis GV70, GV80, G80, G90 94,760 2021–2026

Cause and risk

Regulators say a suspected production deviation could allow retention fasteners to loosen. The crossover fuel pipe connecting left and right fuel lines may then leak.

A fuel leak in the engine bay raises the risk of fire. Owners should treat the condition as a safety concern.

Remedy and owner notification

Dealers will inspect the high-pressure crossover pipe for leaks. Technicians will tighten connectors or replace leaking pipes as needed.

Kia plans to mail owner notification letters starting June 2. Genesis notification letters are expected on June 8.

Engine coverage details

Both recalls appear tied to the Hyundai Motor Group 3.5-liter V-6. The nonhybrid Kia Carnival uses a naturally aspirated 3.5-liter engine.

Genesis models named in the recall use a twin-turbo version of the same 3.5-liter V-6. A company representative confirmed the affected Genesis vehicles feature that engine.

What owners should do

  • Check your vehicle identification number in the NHTSA recall database.
  • Wait for official notification from your dealer before visiting.
  • Contact your local dealership if you detect a fuel odor or visible leak.
