Optimize These 4 PlayStation 5 Settings to Instantly Enhance Performance
The PlayStation 5 delivers strong performance and visuals out of the box. But a few system tweaks can further improve smoothness and responsiveness.
Some features require a compatible TV to work correctly. HDMI 2.1 support matters for the highest refresh rates and VRR, especially on a PS5 Pro. Global chip shortages have helped push console prices higher in recent years.
Variable Refresh Rate (VRR)
Variable Refresh Rate, or VRR, lets the console vary the screen refresh rate dynamically. This reduces stutter when the game cannot keep a steady frame rate.
Enable VRR at Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output. Set VRR to Automatic so the PS5 decides when to adjust refresh rates. Also enable Apply to Unsupported Games to use VRR with older titles.
Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM)
Auto Low Latency Mode, or ALLM, activates a TV’s low-latency display state. It disables extra image processing that can add input lag.

Performance Mode
