Weather Alerts Issued as Severe Conditions Loom Over Half of Poland

Scope of warnings

Weather alerts cover roughly half of Poland. Authorities warn of severe conditions in many of the affected zones.

IMGW released meteorological warnings at two severity levels. Alerts range from first to second degree for intense rainfall.

Areas under meteorological alerts

  • Level I: parts of Dolnośląskie, Małopolskie, Podkarpackie, Śląskie, Świętokrzyskie, and Wielkopolskie.
  • Level II: western sectors of Wielkopolskie and Dolnośląskie.

Alerts for Świętokrzyskie, Małopolskie and Podkarpackie run until Monday at 23:00. Warnings in the other listed provinces expire Monday at 15:00.

Hydrological warnings

Hydrological alerts of the first degree were also issued. They affect Wielkopolskie, Lubuskie, Dolnośląskie, much of Łódzkie, Podkarpackie and Zachodniopomorskie.

These hydrological alerts remain in force until Tuesday at 10:00. Some additional regions have partial coverage.

Immediate outlook and overnight risk

Heavy precipitation will intensify during the night from Sunday to Monday. The strongest rain is expected further south and west.

After the rain front passes, conditions should gradually improve. Authorities recommend caution in areas under alerts.

Monday and Tuesday forecast

Monday brings a clear weather split across the country. The north and north-east will see moderate cloud and little precipitation.

The west, south and parts of the centre will experience rain. Some episodes may be fairly intense, said IMGW forecaster Przemysław Makarewicz to PAP.

Night temperatures from Monday to Tuesday may fall to between -1 and 1°C. Light frosts are possible in parts of the country.

Tuesday will be cooler overall. Showers are possible on the south, and most areas will have moderate cloudiness.
