Liverpool Faces Goalkeeping Crisis After Giorgi Mamardashvili Injury Exit
Giorgi Mamardashvili was stretchered off in visible pain during the Merseyside Derby on 19 April 2026. The incident occurred at the Hill Dickinson Stadium after Everton drew level.
Match events and the injury
Liverpool had taken the lead through Mohamed Salah in the first half. Everton then equalised in the 54th minute when Beto slid in to turn home a Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall cross.
An Iliman Ndiaye strike had been ruled out by VAR earlier for an offside in the build-up. In the build-up to Beto’s goal, the Portuguese forward appeared to follow through and catch Mamardashvili on the knee.
The 25-year-old goalkeeper received treatment on the pitch. He was then removed on a stretcher and replaced due to the injury.
Immediate replacement
Freddie Woodman came on to replace Mamardashvili. The 29-year-old joined Liverpool in the summer on a free transfer from Preston North End.
Woodman’s only previous appearance for the Reds came in a Carabao Cup defeat to Crystal Palace last October. This was his first Premier League outing for Liverpool, and it came at the home of their city rivals.
Wider squad impact
Liverpool faces growing goalkeeping problems following this development. Mamardashvili’s injury exit adds to existing concerns with Alisson already sidelined.
The club’s injury list is extensive. Conor Bradley, Giovanni Leoni and Wataru Endo remain out with long-term issues, while Hugo Ekitike suffered an Achilles tendon rupture and will miss the rest of the calendar year.
Manager Arne Slot now confronts a stretched goalkeeping department. Selection and fitness questions will follow as the club assesses recovery timelines.
Filmogaz.com will monitor further updates on Mamardashvili’s condition and Liverpool’s squad situation. More information is expected as medical reports become available.
