Friends Star Leads New Police Drama as “Burnt-Out LAPD Detective”

Matt LeBlanc is linked to a new police drama at CBS, Variety reports. The project carries the working title Flint.

If the series is ordered to series, it could air in late 2027 and early 2028. The show remains in early development.

The logline centers on a “Burnt-Out LAPD Detective” whose retirement is unexpectedly extended by five years. He tries to get himself fired by breaking rules and disobeying orders.

His misconduct, however, paradoxically improves his police work. That tension drives the central premise.

Creative team and production

Evan Katz is attached as creator and showrunner. Katz is known for work on 24, The Event, and Special Unit 2.

Jerry Bruckheimer’s television company is on board as a producer. Producers say the project is still shaping up.

Timing and release

No official release date has been set. If greenlit, CBS plans to schedule the show across late 2027 and early 2028.

The series remains subject to network approval and further development. More casting and production details are pending.

LeBlanc’s recent career

LeBlanc rose to fame as Joey Tribbiani on Friends from 1994 to 2004. He later starred in the spun-off Joey from 2004 to 2006.

  • Played a fictionalised version of himself on Episodes (2011–2017).
  • Led Man with a Plan for four seasons, ending in 2020.
  • Presented Top Gear for the BBC in the latter half of the 2010s.
