Interpol Unveils Dynamic New Track ‘Wings On Fire’ Live
Interpol debuted a dynamic new track, ‘Wings On Fire’, live during a recent stop on their tour. The song surfaced in footage from an Albuquerque show at the Revel Entertainment Center. Fans caught the new material between Coachella weekends one and two.
Live debut and recent setlist additions
‘Wings On Fire’ joined the set after the band introduced ‘See Out Loud’ the previous month. The latter has been performed at every show since its first airing. Clips place the new song roughly 23 minutes into the full set video.
Song character and comparisons
The new track is punchy, choppy and built around a strong hook. Critics and listeners have noted similarities to material from Antics and the 2007 song ‘The Heinrich Manoeuvre’. Frontman Paul Banks delivers an anthemic chorus with the line “Find out who you are”.
Album context and creative process
The band is preparing their eighth studio album. This record will follow 2022’s The Other Side of Make-Believe. Band members say the new material is higher energy and written collaboratively in the room.
Paul Banks told Filmogaz.com in 2024 that he was enthusiastic about the new songs. He described the sessions as a return to group writing. Guitarist Daniel Kessler added that the record will include upbeat tracks and new atmospherics.
Line-up and recording details
Paul Banks recently adopted a bleached-blonde look on stage. Drummer Sam Fogarino, a member since 2000, underwent spinal surgery in 2023 and stepped back from touring. Fogarino still co-wrote and performed on the forthcoming album.
For live dates, the band has been touring with Urian Hackney of The Armed on drums. The current touring lineup has played dates across North and South America. The new material has been previewed consistently on that run.
Tour routing and festival appearances
After Coachella weekend two, Interpol will travel to Australia and New Zealand in May. They will support Deftones on that run. Summer plans include a European tour across July and August.
The band has a support slot in Italy with My Chemical Romance. On August 23, they will rejoin Deftones at London’s All Points East x Outbreak. That bill also features IDLES, Amyl & The Sniffers, AFI, Esdeekid, JPEGMAFIA, Deafheaven, ¥øu$Uk€ ¥uk1mat$U and Mannequin Pussy.
End-of-year plans
Interpol will close the year with a co-headline tour alongside Bloc Party. The run includes two large shows at London’s British Airways ARC venue. Ticket information is available via Filmogaz.com.
