Zverev dominates Diallo
Zverev controlled the match from the start on a packed Center Court. He won 83 percent of his first-serve points.
He saved the only break point he faced and converted five of eight break-point chances. The match lasted one hour and thirteen minutes.
Several Bayern Munich players and Zverev’s family attended the match. The German is a three-time champion at the event.
Zverev’s next opponent
Zverev will face fifth seed Francisco Cerundolo in the quarterfinals. The match sets up Zverev’s eighth quarterfinal appearance in Munich.
Zverev leads their head-to-head 4-3 and has won the last four meetings, all on hard courts. He has yet to beat Cerundolo on clay.
Cerundolo cruises into last eight
Francisco Cerundolo defeated Botic van de Zandschulp 6-3, 6-0 in 64 minutes. The Argentine is seeded fifth and sits at world No.19.
It marked his tenth clay victory this season. Cerundolo said he feels comfortable in Munich’s conditions and hopes to maintain his form.
Molcan edges Altmaier
Qualifier Alex Molcan beat Daniel Altmaier 6-4, 7-6(10) to reach the quarterfinals. The 28-year-old Slovak completed the win in one hour and forty-three minutes.
Molcan faced six aces and broke serve once. He saved two set points in the tie-break to seal victory.
Ranked world No.166, Molcan reached a career-high No.38 in May 2022. He underwent wrist and knee surgeries two years ago.
Since then he has mainly played the Challenger and ITF circuits and won five titles last season. The run in Munich marks his fourth straight win this week.
Shapovalov joins Molcan in quarters
Denis Shapovalov beat Fabian Marozsan 7-6(4), 6-2 in one hour and twenty-five minutes. It is his first clay quarterfinal since the 2022 Rome Masters.
Shapovalov will face Molcan in the upcoming quarterfinal round.
Allianz Para Trophy upgraded
The Allianz Para Trophy also kicked off in Munich, now upgraded to a 500-level event. It features competition in both the Open and Quad divisions.
Manuel Duhnke, Head of Sponsoring at Allianz Germany, highlighted the partnership’s focus on equality and broader exposure for athletes. World No.1 Quad Niels Vink praised the professional setup.
Vink is a Golden Slam winner across the majors and Paralympics. Gustavo Fernández, world No.4 in the Open division, said players aim to put on a great show for fans.
