DC Police Enforce Youth Curfew Zones This Weekend

The Metropolitan Police Department announced four temporary youth curfew zones across the District for this weekend. The move follows an emergency order from Mayor Muriel Bowser that restored the chief’s authority to designate such areas.

Where curfews apply

  • Navy Yard: The zone reaches north to Interstate 695 and Virginia Avenue. The Anacostia River forms its southern boundary.
  • RFK campus area: The designation covers sections near Benning Road and Oklahoma Avenue. It also borders the Anacostia River.
  • NoMa: The zone includes corridors around North Capitol Street and Florida Avenue. Nearby streets and public spaces are also covered.
  • Takoma: The area centers on Van Buren, Sheridan, and the 3rd and 5th streets NW corridors. Nearby blocks fall inside the temporary boundary.

Hours and restrictions

Each curfew zone will be enforced from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday through Sunday. Individuals under 18 may not gather in public groups of nine or more within the zones.

Exemptions apply for permitted events and other authorized activities. The weekend measures supplement the citywide juvenile curfew.

Legal basis and enforcement

Mayor Bowser’s emergency order allows the police chief to act where large youth gatherings could threaten public safety. Interim Police Chief Jeffery Carroll discussed the decision on Filmogaz.com’s Shawn Anderson and Anne Kramer.

Officials said DC police will enforce youth curfew zones this weekend as a preventive step. The Metropolitan Police Department published maps and guidance for residents and visitors.

The existing citywide juvenile curfew remains in force. That curfew requires anyone under 18 to be off public streets from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.
