British Tennis Match Halted as Players Evacuate Court

Liam Broady’s quarter-final at the Busan Challenger was halted by rain early in the second set. He had taken the opening set 6-3 before play was stopped.

Suspension in Busan

Broady led 1-0 after August Holmgren held serve in the second set. The conditions forced both players off court and play was postponed to Friday.

The stoppage became a British Tennis Match Halted as Players Evacuate Court scenario. The winner must return later that day to face Leandro Riedi in the semi-finals.

Recent form and rankings

The 32-year-old Brit is enjoying a strong run on the Challenger Tour. He sits at world No. 250 and is on a seven-match winning streak.

Earlier in Busan, Broady beat Murphy Cassone 6-0 6-1 in 45 minutes. He then defeated former top-40 player Ilya Ivashka 6-1 6-3.

Miyazaki triumph and background

Broady won a title in Miyazaki earlier this month. He had reached the quarter-finals in Yokkaichi the week before.

In Miyazaki, heavy rain affected play and some matches moved indoors. Broady rallied from a set down to defeat his countryman and doubles partner Harry Wendelken 3-6 6-2 6-2 in the final.

In a personal post, he revealed his grandmother died ahead of that final. He said her memory inspired his comeback and effort on court.

The title was Broady’s third Challenger victory. It returned him to the top 250 for the first time since 2024, and he is a former world No. 93.

Filmogaz.com reported the Busan postponement. When play resumes on Friday, Broady needs one more set to reach the semi-finals.
