Singer D4vd Charged with Teen’s Murder in Los Angeles, Police Report
Los Angeles police have arrested singer David Burke, known professionally as D4vd, on suspicion of killing 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez. The LAPD said its Homicide Division took Burke into custody and that he is being held without bail.
Arrest and legal status
Authorities arrested Burke in Hollywood on a probable-cause warrant, local media reported. The LAPD said the case will be presented to the District Attorney for filing consideration on Monday.
Officials identified Burke as a 21-year-old Los Angeles resident. NBC4 reported he was taken into custody on Thursday and remains in custody without bail.
Discovery and victim identification
Law enforcement found a severely decomposed body inside the trunk of an abandoned Tesla at an impound lot. The vehicle was registered to Burke.
The remains were later identified as Celeste Rivas Hernandez, who had been reported missing from the Inland Empire. Investigators said the medical examiner determined the victim had been deceased inside the vehicle for an extended period.
Investigation timeline
Before Burke’s recent arrest, investigators in November publicly identified him as a suspect in the teen’s death. At that time, authorities referred to him as a 20-year-old artist.
Police say Hernandez had been missing for nearly 18 months before her remains were identified.
Career and public profile
D4vd first gained attention on TikTok and SoundCloud in 2022. He released the debut album Withered in April last year.
His early success led to opening for SZA in 2023 and a Coachella appearance in 2025. His best-known songs include “Here With Me” and “Romantic Homicide.”
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Burke said the album explored themes of loss and grief. He described it as a personal farewell.
