Singer D4vd Charged with Teen’s Murder After Body Found in Tesla Trunk

Los Angeles police announced the arrest of singer D4vd, whose legal name is David Anthony Burke. He was taken into custody Thursday on suspicion of murder related to a teenager’s death.

Arrest and legal status

The Los Angeles Police Department said Burke, 21, is being held without bail. The case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office on Monday for review.

Court records earlier in the year indicated Burke had been the subject of a grand jury investigation. An attorney for Burke did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Discovery of the remains

Police found human remains on Sept. 8 in the trunk of an impounded Tesla at Hollywood Tow. Officers had been called because a foul odor was coming from the vehicle.

The victim was identified as 15-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez. She had been reported missing from Lake Elsinore and was last seen on April 5, 2024.

Medical examiner’s findings

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner reported the girl was wearing black leggings, a tube top, a yellow metal chain bracelet and stud earrings. Officials said the remains were not intact and appeared to have been in the car for an extended period.

Investigation and public response

Authorities have described an ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death. Prosecutors will determine whether formal charges are filed.

When the remains were first reported, Burke was on his Withered World Tour. A spokesperson said he was aware of the discovery and was fully cooperating with law enforcement.

He subsequently canceled the remainder of his U.S. tour dates. Media and fans reacted as the investigation continued.
