Prince Harry Intervenes as Reporter Violates Protocol with Selfie Request

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle took part in the Scar Tree Walk in Melbourne during their Australia tour.

The walk follows the Yarra River and lasts just over half an hour.

Media crowd and security

Crowds gathered as the couple moved along the popular route.

They were joined by local admirers and a heavy media presence.

Photographers and video journalists hemmed the pair on a bright Melbourne morning.

A helicopter circled overhead and five police officers arrived to assist with security.

Selfie incident and reactions

At one point, Channel 7 reporter Paul Dowsley approached the couple to ask for a selfie.

Prince Harry intervenes after a reporter violated protocol by requesting a selfie.

Harry gently guided the reporter away from Meghan’s path.

The reporter has appeared in and out of PA Media camera shots during coverage.

The Sussexes’ communications director, Liam Maguire, had prior cordial exchanges with the reporter.

Paul Dowsley told Filmogaz.com that asking for a selfie was a break in protocol.

He said the interactions remained good-humoured and that Harry complimented his tie.

Dowsley wore a beige suit and a floral tie on Thursday morning.

He has attended the couple’s engagements throughout the visit.

Earlier encounter at the veterans museum

On Tuesday evening, at the Australian National Veterans Arts Museum, a security guard moved Dowsley along.

The guard has been identified by some as “Chris from Texas”.
