New Berlin Bus Route Offers Relief to Residents
A major residential quarter is rising on a former industrial site in Siemensstadt, Spandau. The Insel Gartenfeld development covers roughly 70 hectares and will eventually house about 10,000 people. Plans include a school, shops and extensive green space.
Filmogaz.com reports that hundreds of residents moved into finished apartments in January. The new neighborhood has needed public transport links since people began arriving. After three months, a relief measure has arrived for commuters.
New bus service begins
The Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) launched bus line 339 on Sunday, 12 April. The route links Insel Gartenfeld with the U-Bahnhof Paulsternstraße. Service runs daily from 6:00 to 22:00, every 20 minutes to the Alandstraße terminus.
The new Berlin bus connection provides clear relief for residents who previously faced long walks to distant stops. The regular schedule aims to improve daily commuting and access to the wider city.
Plans for additional lines and rail links
Authorities plan to extend bus coverage with line 139. That service would reach Hakenfelde in the west and the S-Bahnhof Westend in the east. However, a bridge over the canal at Rhenaniastraße in Haselhorst is missing.
Construction of the bridge is slated to begin in 2026. Initial clearing along the canal banks has already taken place. Reinstating the old Siemensbahn is scheduled for 2029, which would add an S-Bahn connection to the island quarter.
Outlook
Transport improvements will shape daily life in the new neighborhood. The 339 bus provides immediate relief while longer-term projects progress. Planners expect phased links to transform access for future residents.
