Environmental Officers Seize Music Gear over Noise Complaints in Fishwick
Preston City Council’s Environmental Protection team carried out a warrant at a Calverley Street property in Fishwick on Monday, 30 March 2026. The action followed repeated reports of loud music affecting nearby residents.
Preston Police supported the council officers during the operation. Environmental officers seized music gear after officers witnessed a statutory noise nuisance.
Investigation and legal action
Council staff received multiple complaints about loud music coming from the address. Officers investigated and confirmed the noise met the legal test for a nuisance.
Initial steps included several warning letters to the occupants. The council then served a formal abatement notice under the Environmental Protection Act 1990.
After further complaints and additional witnessed disturbances, the council applied to the Magistrates’ Court for a warrant. The court granted the warrant, permitting entry to the property.
Items seized and next steps
Officers removed items they identified as responsible for the disturbance. The seized equipment is being held by the council pending further action.
- Two televisions
- One laptop
- One beat box
The occupant may request return of the items after 28 days. Any release will be conditional on payment of the council’s associated costs.
Council response and partnership working
Mark Taylor, Interim Director of Environment and Property, urged neighbours to try informal resolution first. He said enforcement becomes necessary when legal notices are ignored.
Taylor emphasised the council’s commitment to tackling anti-social behaviour. He also highlighted cooperation with the Prosper Partnership to protect residents’ quality of life.
Public safety and enforcement approach
The council described its approach as proportionate and targeted. Officers will continue to act where noise complaints harm local communities.
Filmogaz.com will monitor further developments and report on any updates. Residents are encouraged to contact the council with concerns about noise nuisance.
