UK Basketball’s Major Recruiting Week: Latest Updates Unveiled

Kentucky is still searching for its first transfer-portal commitment of the offseason. Coach Mark Pope has hosted several top prospects in Lexington this week.

High-profile campus visits

BYU guard Rob Wright III visited Kentucky. Wright averaged 18.1 points, 4.6 assists and 1.2 steals per game this past season.

Wright is listed by 247Sports as the top available point guard in the portal. Reports suggest he may withdraw and return to BYU.

Kentucky also hosted Tyran Stokes, the consensus No. 1 high school senior in 2026. The 6-foot-7 Louisville native has been pursued by Kansas and Kentucky.

Stokes has not announced a decision timeline. He would likely be a one-and-done talent if he commits to Kentucky.

Other visitors and targets

Washington guard Zoom Diallo was the Wildcats’ first transfer visitor of the window. Several other names are scheduled for visits.

  • Alex Wilkins, 6-5 guard from Furman.
  • Donnie Freeman, 6-9 forward from Syracuse.
  • Jalen Cox, 6-3 guard from Colgate.
  • Isaac Celiscar, 6-6 forward from Yale. He averaged 13.2 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.2 assists.
  • Terrence Brown, 6-3 guard from Utah. He averaged nearly 20 points per game.

Roster needs and spring signing period

The Wildcats must replace major production from last season. Kentucky lost significant scoring from its top five scorers.

The spring signing period for high school players begins this week. Kentucky’s only 2026 commitment is four-star guard Mason Williams.

Mason Williams is the son of new UK assistant coach Mo Williams. He is expected to complete his signing paperwork.

Portal movement around college basketball

High-level transfer players are rapidly choosing destinations. As of Tuesday night, 23 of the top 50 transfers in 247Sports had committed.

Flory Bidunga (No. 1) Louisville
Jackson Shelstad (No. 18) Louisville
P.J. Haggerty (No. 7) Texas A&M
David Punch (No. 9) Texas
Miles Byrd (No. 11) Providence
Isaiah Johnson (No. 14) Texas
Stefan Vaaks (No. 15) Illinois
Dedan Thomas Jr. (No. 17) Houston

Notable portal moves affecting Kentucky

Acaden Lewis, once signed to Kentucky, committed to Miami from the portal. He averaged 12.2 points and 5.3 assists at Villanova.

Somto Cyril also joined Miami. Both players were linked to Kentucky during past recruiting cycles.

Departures and professional plans

Jayden Quaintance declared for the 2026 NBA Draft. The 6-10 forward played parts of two college seasons at Arizona State and Kentucky.

Quaintance appeared in four games for Kentucky. He posted 10 points and eight rebounds in his UK debut on Dec. 20.

An earlier ACL injury and knee swelling limited his availability. He remains a projected first-round pick.

During this major recruiting week for UK Basketball, the latest updates show Kentucky remaining active. More visits and decisions are expected in the coming days.
