Coby White Inspires Local Students Ahead of Game

A nonprofit took 47 boys from Wilson Preparatory Academy and Goldsboro on a trip to Charlotte. The outing was Faith4FutureFathers’ fourth annual NBA experience. Travel was by charter bus and the event cost the students nothing.

Each participant received a T-shirt. They ate at Dave & Buster’s and received game cards. The group watched the Charlotte Hornets play the Indiana Pacers.

Meeting a hometown player

During pregame warm-ups the students met Coby White. White plays for the Hornets and is a Goldsboro native. He also attended Greenfield School as a youth.

Coby White inspired local students ahead of the game by greeting the group. He exchanged high-fives and posed for photos. The brief interaction created a lasting memory for many boys.

Impact on the program

Terrance Thornton directs Faith4FutureFathers. He said the encounter affirmed the group’s mission to shape future leaders. Thornton noted White has supported the program before.

Thornton added that White’s actions reinforced lessons in humility, generosity and leadership. The nonprofit described the moment as proof that role models matter off the court as well as on it.
