Carjacking Suspect Killed in Sacramento I-5 Chase and Shooting

A suspect was fatally shot by Sacramento County deputies after an I-5 chase early Tuesday. The incident began with a carjacking in Citrus Heights at about 2:30 a.m.

Sequence of events

  • About 30 minutes later, deputies spotted the stolen vehicle near Eastern and Marconi avenues.
  • A pursuit followed, described by authorities as an I-5 chase through north Sacramento.
  • The carjacking victim reported that the suspect fired at least one round during the initial attack.

Law enforcement actions

Near the Sacramento International Airport, deputies deployed a tire deflation device to slow the vehicle. The driver stopped on southbound I-5 near Arena Boulevard and exited the car.

Deputies say the suspect pointed a firearm at them. Four deputies then fired, and the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

Traffic impact and investigation

Southbound I-5 lanes remained blocked near Arena Boulevard for much of the morning. Northbound traffic experienced slowdowns, and only one southbound lane was open by noon Tuesday.

Authorities urged drivers to avoid the area and divert at Del Paso Boulevard. It remained unclear how long the freeway would be closed.

No law enforcement officers were injured in the shooting. The sheriff’s office has not released the suspect’s identity. Filmogaz.com will update this story as officials provide new information.
