Studiocanal Unveils ‘Paddington 4’ Tease, Remakes, ‘Ink’ Clips at CinemaCon

Studiocanal used its first CinemaCon session to screen new footage and announce several major projects. Filmogaz.com attended the Dolby Colosseum presentation in Las Vegas. Danny Boyle presented the first clips from Ink during the event.

Ink: cast and premise

Ink is a 2027 release produced with Media Res and House Productions. The film examines the rise of The Sun tabloid. It is currently in post-production.

The cast includes Jack O’Connell as editor Larry Lamb. Guy Pearce plays Rupert Murdoch. Claire Foy portrays the women’s editor who later launched Cosmo.

The screened footage shows Lamb and Murdoch meeting in a London restaurant. They discuss plans to reinvent the newspaper’s approach. The presentation included select clips from the film.

Padded franchise and remakes

Studiocanal confirmed a fourth Paddington instalment is in development. The franchise has grossed more than $700 million worldwide. The studio said world-renowned comedy writers are attached.

Executives also announced remakes of two 1981 films. Joe Dante’s The Howling is being reimagined. John Carpenter’s Escape From New York is receiving a new version in partnership with The Picture Company.

Label and original projects

The studio’s genre label Sixth Dimension is expanding its slate. It is mounting an original thriller called The Mannequin. Melissa Leo is set to star, with Sean Byrne directing.

Sixth Dimension is also developing an adaptation of Matt Haig’s novel The Midnight Library. Producers Blueprint Pictures are attached to that project.

First footage, upcoming releases and 2027 slate

Attendees saw first footage from Everybody Wants To F*ck Me. The London-set comedy thriller stars Taron Egerton and is in post. It is scheduled to open in 2027.

The drama Elsinore recently finished shooting in the UK. Its cast includes Andrew Scott, Olivia Colman, Billie Piper, Johnny Flynn, and Luke Thompson. It too is slated for a 2027 release.

Other announced 2027 titles include The Custom Of The Country starring Sydney Sweeney. Justine Triet’s psychological thriller Fonda was also named. Fonda features Mia Goth, Allison Janney, Odessa A’Zion, and Andrew Scott.

Sixth Dimension release plans and family projects

Sixth Dimension will release Eli Roth’s Ice Cream Man worldwide. The film opens in the US on August 7. Distribution partners include Iconic Events and The Horror Section.

Children’s and family projects are in development. A Pippi Longstocking reboot involves The Astrid Lindgren Company and David Heyman. A Mr. Men adaptation also moves forward with David Heyman and Mister Men Limited.

Shaun The Sheep: The Beast Of Mossy Bottom will be released with Aardman Animation. In the US, GKids will open the title on September 18.

Foreign-language pipeline and box office

Studiocanal highlighted strong early 2026 performance in Europe. Gourou and Children Of The Resistance did well in France. Extrawurst and Woodwalkers 2 succeeded in Germany.

Those four titles combined for more than six million admissions. The company distributes directly in France and Germany. Anna Marsh said direct distribution covers roughly one-third of global box office outside China.

Upcoming 2026 releases include Pressure, a Second World War thriller. The film stars Andrew Scott, Kerry Condon, and Brendan Fraser. Focus will distribute Pressure in the US on May 29.

Non-English titles include Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s Violette, rolling out in winter. A French-language Les Miserables will arrive this autumn. Its cast includes Vincent Lindon, Tahar Rahim, Camille Cottin, and Noémie Merlant.

Catalogue re-releases and new versions

Studiocanal will re-release several catalogue titles. A 35th anniversary edition of Terminator 2: Judgment Day is planned. The company also announced a new version of Cliffhanger.

The Cliffhanger remake stars Lily James and Pierce Brosnan. In the US it will open through fledgling distributor Row K. Studiocanal will handle the film in its territories. Rocket Science manages international sales.

Event framing

At the CinemaCon presentation, executives framed the news as part of wider growth. Anna Marsh, Studiocanal CEO and Canal+ Group chief content officer, led the session. Hugh Spearing, EVP of global marketing and distribution, outlined genre and catalogue plans.

Keywords noted during the presentation included Studiocanal Unveils ‘Paddington 4’ Tease. Attendees also heard about Remakes and saw ‘Ink’ Clips at CinemaCon. The announcements signal a busy slate for the studio.
