Former NFL cornerback Chris Payton-Jones tragically lost his life in a car accident in Florida on Saturday night. He was just 30 years old at the time of his passing.

The accident occurred when Payton-Jones was driving his sedan eastbound in the westbound lanes of State Road 24 in Gainesville. His vehicle collided head-on with a pickup truck. Fortunately, the three occupants of the truck sustained only minor injuries. However, Payton-Jones’s car overturned and ignited, resulting in his death at the scene.
A Rising Star in Football
Born in the Jacksonville area, Payton-Jones played college football at the University of Nebraska from 2014 to 2017, where he was known simply as Chris Jones. Despite going unselected in the 2018 NFL Draft, he went on to appear in 29 regular-season games over four seasons in the NFL. During his career, he played for the Arizona Cardinals, Detroit Lions, Minnesota Vikings, and Tennessee Titans from 2018 to 2021.
Transition to Alternative Leagues
In 2023, Payton-Jones transitioned to the Seattle Sea Dragons in the XFL and spent the previous two seasons with the St. Louis Battlehawks in the UFL. His adaptability showcased his commitment to football and his passion for the sport.
