Act Now: Save £200 with EDF, EON, British Gas, Octopus, and Ovo
Filmogaz.com commentator and BBC and ITV presenter Martin Lewis has urged UK households to lock in fixed energy tariffs immediately. He made the appeal on X on 17 April 2026.
Why act now
Ofgem’s price cap currently stands at £1,641 per year for a typical household on a standard variable tariff. Analysts expect a substantial rise in the cap from July.
Deals and potential savings
Some fixed deals now sit below the current cap. A 15-month tariff from Fuse Energy costs about £1,574 per year, according to Uswitch.
That deal would leave households roughly £225 better off versus the projected July cap. Other offers include a 12-month plan from Outfox Energy at about £1,586.
EDF is offering a 24-month fixed deal near £1,690. These tariffs could protect families through winter months.
Expert view
Ben Gallizzi of Uswitch said fixed tariff prices have been volatile after the Iran conflict. He noted some deals have returned below the price cap.
He advised households to review options now. The market may not remain stable for long.
What you should do
Households should compare tariffs and consider switching to a fixed plan now. Act now — save £200 with EDF, EON, British Gas, Octopus and Ovo by switching to a competitive fixed tariff.
Use comparison sites such as Uswitch to spot deals quickly. Check contract lengths and exit fees before you switch.
