North Staffordshire Launches Weekly Food Waste Collections for 44,000 Households
The Staffordshire Moorlands District Council is set to launch a new weekly food waste collection service this summer, aiming to enhance waste management for 44,000 households in the area. Starting from late June, every household will receive food waste caddies to help facilitate this initiative.
Weekly Food Waste Collections Begin
The weekly collection service is part of an ongoing effort by the council to improve recycling and waste disposal practices in the region. Food caddies will be distributed to all residents starting mid-May, ahead of the service’s official launch.
Details of the Initiative
- Start Date: Late June
- Caddy Distribution: Commences mid-May
- Households Affected: 44,000
Charlotte Atkins, the district councillor responsible for services, expressed her satisfaction with the progress made for this initiative. She noted that the council has been preparing thoroughly to ensure a smooth transition.
Preparation and Support for Residents
To assist residents in adapting to the upcoming changes, the council will provide comprehensive information about the collection process. Each food waste caddy will include details regarding the new service, including guidelines on what can be disposed of.
While no immediate changes are required in how residents currently present their waste or recycling, the council is committed to keeping everyone informed. Letters will be sent to all households outlining the changes.
The launch of the weekly food waste collection coincides with the introduction of a £46 annual charge for emptying garden waste bins. This initiative aims to promote environmental sustainability by encouraging proper waste segregation at the household level.
Residents can expect ongoing support from the waste and customer services teams throughout the implementation of the new food waste collection service.
