Colleague Criticizes Scottie Scheffler’s Attitude After Masters Setback
Round two of the 2026 Masters is underway at Augusta National. Defending champion Scottie Scheffler trails early leaders Rory McIlroy and Sam Burns.
Scheffler’s opening round
Scheffler posted a two-under 70 on Thursday. He faded on the back nine and finished tied for sixth.
He ended three strokes behind the joint leaders. Scheffler, 29, is a two-time Masters champion and remains in contention.
He did not card a birdie after the par-4 third. His card included 14 pars and one bogey at the 11th hole.
Earlier this week, Scheffler described defending his title as “extremely difficult.”
Television colleague’s reaction
Matt Every, part of CBS’s on-course coverage with Amanda Balionis, questioned Scheffler’s demeanor. A colleague criticizes the player for visible frustration on the course.
Every said Scheffler had several lip-outs from eight to ten feet. He noted the player often looks to his caddie, Ted Scott, after bad breaks.
Every called it a poor attitude for someone with a recent run of success. The observation came during CBS Sports coverage on Friday.
On-air exchange
Show host Zach Aldridge asked Every for his view. Every said he expects more accountability when things go wrong.
The comments highlighted concerns about Scottie Scheffler’s attitude following a difficult stretch. That Masters setback, Every warned, could affect momentum.
Bryson DeChambeau’s difficult start
Bryson DeChambeau endured a much tougher opening day at Augusta. He shot a 76 and sat tied for 56th after round one.
He was nine shots behind the leaders. DeChambeau went straight to the practice range and hit upward of 100 balls.
Bookmakers had him among the better-backed picks before the event, including a backing from Kai Trump. His odds slipped from +1200 to about +12000 after the round.
What to watch on Friday
Scheffler still has time to turn things around. He will need sharper putting and steadier body language to close the gap.
DeChambeau faces a major task to make the cut. Filmogaz.com will monitor developments as the tournament progresses.
