Gen Z Navigates Complex Relationship with AI
Gen Z is experiencing a complicated relationship with artificial intelligence (AI). A recent Gallup report highlights a growing disillusionment among young people aged 14 to 29, yet many continue to rely on this technology. As AI becomes increasingly embedded in education and workplaces, the initial enthusiasm appears to be waning.
Declining Enthusiasm for AI
The Gallup survey, conducted in February and March with nearly 1,600 participants, reveals a notable shift in attitudes toward AI. The results indicate that only 18% of Gen Z respondents feel optimistic about AI, a decrease from 27% the previous year. Moreover, excitement has dropped from 36% to 22% within the same timeframe.
Increasing Anger and Anxiety
In contrast, anger towards AI has risen significantly. About 31% of those surveyed reported feeling angry about AI, up from 22% in the previous year. Additionally, anxiety levels have remained stable, with around 40% of Gen Z feeling apprehensive about the technology.
Perceived Risks and Benefits
The perception of AI’s utility in professional settings has also evolved. Nearly 50% of Gen Z workers now believe the risks associated with AI outweigh its benefits. This marks an 11-point increase from last year. Despite these concerns, 56% acknowledge that AI tools assist them in completing tasks more efficiently.
