Nick Faldo Urges Jon Rahm to Resolve DP World Tour Dispute Before Ryder Cup

Nick Faldo has urged Jon Rahm to settle his dispute with the DP World Tour ahead of the Ryder Cup. The former world number one warned Rahm to resolve the matter quickly to protect his place in European team events.

Fines and eligibility

Rahm faces fines exceeding £2 million for appearing in LIV Golf tournaments that clashed with the DP World Tour schedule. He remains ineligible for European Tour events and next year’s Ryder Cup in Ireland until the case is resolved.

Players who made deals

Eight LIV players accepted a settlement with the DP World Tour. The group included Tyrrell Hatton. They agreed to pay outstanding penalties and to commit to a set number of DP World Tour events.

Rahm’s stance and legal steps

Rahm has so far refused the same deal. He withdrew his appeal against the fines but has not reached terms on reinstatement. He says he and the DP World Tour continue to negotiate and expect a solution.

Events Rahm aims to play

  • Spanish Open
  • Irish Open
  • BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth

Rahm expressed confidence the issue will be resolved before he tees off in September. He is also practising at Augusta National ahead of the 2026 Masters.

Faldo’s intervention

Faldo urged Rahm and other European players who joined LIV Golf to show gratitude to the wider game. He said they should accept the DP World Tour’s request to play designated events.

The six-time major champion added that players who step away risk losing relevance in the sport. He suggested that those earning large sums should give back by honouring commitments to the tour.

Outlook

Both sides report ongoing talks. Rahm says he has offered compromises and expects a resolution. Faldo believes a swift settlement would be best for Rahm and the European team.
