Railway Station Fire Forces Train Cancellations | ITV News
A significant blaze broke out in a restaurant roof at Oulton Broad North Railway Station in the early hours of Thursday. Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service was alerted and multiple crews responded.
Emergency response
Firefighters from Lowestoft North and Lowestoft South attended the scene. They were joined by teams from Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service.
Police and ambulance personnel were also present throughout the incident. Crews had the fire under control by around 6am.
After containment, firefighters carried out hot-spotting across the affected area. The operation involved several fire crews working to ensure the site was safe.
Rail disruption and passenger impact
Greater Anglia warned of disruption to services following the railway station fire. The operator said routes between Norwich and Lowestoft, and Ipswich and Lowestoft, would be affected during Thursday morning.
Services scheduled to run to Lowestoft could not complete their journeys. Some trains were cancelled while others were diverted to Great Yarmouth via Reedham.
Trains between Ipswich and Lowestoft were also impacted. That is because those services are timed to use trains coming from Norwich to Lowestoft.
Advice for travellers
Passengers were urged to check before traveling due to ongoing train cancellations. Updates were available from the operator for affected journeys.
