This year’s Cannes Film Festival promises a star-studded event, featuring renowned names such as Gillian Anderson, Cara Delevingne, Rami Malek, and John Travolta. As the festival marks its 79th edition, it showcases an impressive lineup of films by acclaimed directors.

The competition includes several high-profile films vying for the prestigious Palme d’Or. Notable entries come from influential filmmakers:

  • Pedro Almodóvar – Returns with Bitter Christmas, exploring the lives of filmmaker friends.
  • Hirokazu Kore-eda – Premieres Sheep in the Box, a science-fiction drama centered on AI.
  • Paweł Pawlikowski – Presents Fatherland, featuring Sandra Hüller.
  • László Nemes – Brings Moulin, focusing on the French resistance.
  • Asghar Farhadi – Introduces Parallel Tales, with Isabelle Huppert and Vincent Cassel.
  • Andrey Zvyagintsev – To debut Minotaur, a political thriller.

US Representation and Special Screenings

This year’s lineup is notable for the limited American representation. The only entry from a US director is The Man I Love by Ira Sachs. This musical fantasy addresses the impact of the AIDS epidemic and stars Rami Malek.

The Cannes Film Festival will run from May 12 to 23, 2026. This year’s jury will be led by renowned South Korean director Park Chan-wook, taking over from Juliette Binoche.

Festival director Thierry Frémaux revealed that 2,491 films were submitted, marking a significant increase compared to ten years ago.

The announcement of this year’s titles constitutes about “95%” of the overall festival lineup, with more surprises likely revealed closer to the start.
