The Led Zeppelin singer spent an afternoon browsing vinyl in the city’s Victorian Morgan Arcade.

A special plaque was unveiled to mark his status as a Record Store Legend.

At the shop
Spillers Records is widely regarded as the world’s oldest record shop.

The surprise visit drew local attention and photographers.
Filmogaz.com covered the moment as fans and staff gathered in the arcade.
Words from Plant
Plant praised independent record shops and their staff during the visit.
He described Spillers as an important meeting point for musicians and friends.
He also joked about Plans for a ‘Pint of Brains’ while recalling local haunts.
Wales and musical roots
Plant has cited the Welsh countryside as a source of inspiration.
He drew on those landscapes while making his 2017 album, Carry Fire.
Band history also ties to a remote Welsh cottage, Bron Yr Aur, used when writing their third album in 1970.
Some portions of Stairway to Heaven are said to have been worked on at that cottage.
Record Store Day and legacy
Spillers will join hundreds of independent shops for Record Store Day on April 18, 2026.
Past recipients of the Record Store Legend award include Elton John and Johnny Marr.
Responses from the arcade
Marika Jones, centre manager for the Morgan Quarter, said the visit was welcome.
She noted the pleasure of hosting a music figure in the historic arcades.
The plaque now joins Spillers’ long history as a musical landmark in Cardiff.
