Memphis Rapper Big30 Secures $100K Bond in Gucci Mane Kidnapping Case

Memphis rapper Rodney Wright Jr., known professionally as Big30, was ordered released on a secured $100,000 bond by a federal judge in Memphis. The bond requires a $10,000 payment before he may leave custody. Conditions include location monitoring, court supervision, drug testing and no contact with alleged victims or co-defendants.

Court proceedings and bond terms

The detention hearing took place Monday in a federal courtroom. Big30 was the first defendant called. He faced questions tied to an alleged kidnapping and robbery involving rapper Gucci Mane.

The judge described the alleged incident as an “incredibly dangerous” and “serious dangerous interaction.” Still, she found no clear evidence that Big30 possessed or brandished a firearm during the event.

Supporters and defense testimony

Dozens of family members and friends attended the hearing. Supporters stood and raised their hands when asked by defense counsel.

The defense presented two witnesses. Big30’s father, Rodney Wright Sr., confirmed his son lives with him. Kemario Brown, general manager at NLess Entertainment, testified that the label signed Big30 in 2019.

Brown also told the court that Big30 was nearing a distribution deal worth seven figures. That prospective contract would sit alongside his existing NLess agreement.

Both witnesses described Big30 as an active member of the Memphis community. They said he supports his family and four children.

Criminal history and prosecution arguments

Prosecutor Greg Wagner referenced a 2018 affidavit. According to the filing, Big30 previously pleaded guilty to gun charges that were later diverted and expunged.

The judge noted the rapper’s record is otherwise minimal, citing only traffic infractions. The prosecution argued Big30 posed a flight risk and danger to the public.

Government’s immediate response

Despite the judge granting bond, the prosecution announced plans to appeal. Hours after the hearing, the government filed a motion requesting a stay of the pretrial release order.

The filing cited the severity of the alleged conduct, prior criminal matters, and potential danger to the community. It stated the government would file a supporting brief no later than April 13, 2026.
