Samsung to Discontinue Messages App

Samsung has announced plans to discontinue its Samsung Messages app by July 2026. Galaxy users are encouraged to transition to Google Messages for a seamless Android messaging experience.

Transition Details

After the discontinuation, users will no longer be able to send messages via Samsung Messages, except for contacting emergency services or defined emergency contacts. Additionally, the Messages app will be unavailable for download from the Galaxy Store once it is phased out.

Device Compatibility

  • Newer devices, including the Galaxy S26 series, cannot install Samsung Messages.
  • Users operating on Android 11 or older will still have access to the Samsung Messages app.

Switching to Google Messages

Samsung cautions that users with devices launched before 2022 may experience temporary disruptions in ongoing RCS conversations during the switch. However, chats should resume after both users have transitioned to Google Messages.

Benefits of Google Messages

Switching to Google Messages offers several advantages, including:

  • Enhanced security features.
  • Support for RCS messaging.
  • Integration of AI capabilities.
  • Improved multi-device connectivity.

This strategic move reinforces Samsung’s commitment to providing users with an optimized messaging solution while aligning with Google’s framework for messaging on Android devices.
