Spotify is enhancing its musical offering with the expansion of its AI-driven feature, the Prompted Playlist, to include podcasts. Initially launched in New Zealand, this innovative feature is now available to premium users in several countries, including the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Ireland, Australia, and Sweden.

The Prompted Playlist feature allows users to create curated playlists based on specific prompts. Users can input requests such as, “Make a playlist of true crime podcasts I would be interested in.” This helps tailor suggestions to individual preferences, enhancing the podcast discovery experience.
Key Features of Prompted Playlists
- Ability to create playlists for both music and podcasts.
- Options to set playlist update frequency: daily, weekly, or not at all.
- Each new episode added to the playlist includes a note explaining its relevance.
Lizzy Hale, Spotify’s Global Head of Podcast Editorial, emphasized the benefit of this feature for podcast enthusiasts. “Podcast fans are always looking for their next great listen,” Hale stated. The Prompted Playlist makes it easier for listeners to discover new content that aligns with their interests.

Spotify reports that over 34 million podcasts are discovered weekly on its platform. The Prompted Playlist aims to further elevate podcast discovery while also presenting opportunities for creators to connect with engaged audiences.

New Monetization Criteria for Video Podcasts
In addition to Prompted Playlists, Spotify has adjusted its monetization requirements for video podcasts. Creators are now required to have:
- Three published podcasts.
- 2,000 consumption hours in the last 30 days.
- At least 1,000 engaged listeners within the same period.
During the Q4 2025 earnings call, Spotify’s co-CEO Alex Norström revealed that the platform hosts over 530,000 video podcasts, showcasing its significant presence in the podcasting arena.
