The couple departed Hope Town around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, heading towards Elbow Cay. They were using an 8-foot dinghy when the incident occurred. Reports indicate that Hooker fell into the water while her husband held onto the keys to the boat.
Search and Rescue Efforts
Following the incident, Bahamian authorities conducted extensive search operations through the weekend and into Monday. Unfortunately, the search has now transitioned into a recovery operation, as confirmed by Richard Cook, team lead with Hope Town Volunteer Fire & Rescue.
Brian Hooker paddled for hours after the incident to reach Marsh Harbor Boat Yard, where he reported what happened. The local police were subsequently alerted to the situation.

Karli Aylesworth, Hooker’s daughter, expressed her deep concern for her mother’s fate. “My sole concern is to find out what happened to my mother and ensure a complete investigation into her disappearance,” she stated.

The couple, who hails from Michigan, had been documenting their Bahamas adventure on social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram, known collectively as “The Sailing Hookers.” Their recent posts showcased various activities, including sailing and snorkeling.
On February 11, they shared a video captioned, “Heading to the Bahamas #saillife.” This suggests that they had been in the Bahamas since at least early February.
