Alife and James Propel Somerset to Day Three Dominance

Somerset left Taunton with a 223-run lead at the close of day three. The Cooper Associates County Ground saw an unbeaten second-wicket stand in excess of 200.

Weather and early play

Storm Dave brought heavy rain overnight, but play began at 11am. Rain still interrupted the morning session and an early lunch was taken.

Nottinghamshire innings and key strikes

Nottinghamshire resumed on 218 for three. Craig Overton opened the bowling from the Marcus Trescothick Pavilion End.

Jack Haynes was the first wicket of the day. He fell for 55 when James Rew took the catch behind the stumps.

Alife conditions tested both sides. The visitors reached 226 before a rain delay halted play.

Alfie Ogborne’s rise

Alfie Ogborne was introduced from the River End and struck quickly. He took Verreynne lbw for 25 and bowled Joe Clarke when Clarke was eight short of a century.

Ogborne finished with career-best first-class figures of three for 81 from 21 overs. His spells proved decisive in removing set batters.

Late-innings wickets and Nottinghamshire all out

The visitors passed 300 in the 91st over. Migael Pretorius removed Liam Patterson-White for 17 at 314.

Robert Lord fell for 22, edging Jake Ball to Tom Kohler Cadmore at first slip. Dillon Pennington followed, caught by Kohler Cadmore.

Nottinghamshire were dismissed for 338, leaving Somerset a narrow first-innings lead.
