“Marvel Zombies Set to Return for Thrilling Season 2”

Marvel Zombies will return for a second season, Marvel Studios officials have confirmed. Brad Winderbaum, head of streaming, television, and animation, revealed production is underway during an appearance on The Escape Pod podcast.

Production update and early footage

Winderbaum said he viewed the first animatic of episode one for season 2. He described it as intense and unlike anything the MCU has shown before.

The project has not received a formal public announcement from Marvel. Still, the studio is moving forward with production on the follow-up season.

How season 1 performed

The animated horror series premiered on Disney+ in 2025. It topped streaming charts in more than 30 countries during its debut week, even outselling Grey’s Anatomy in that period.

Season 1 ended on a cliffhanger that left fans eager for the next installment. That demand helped spur interest in a second season.

Critical response

Critical reaction to the first season was mixed. Rotten Tomatoes gave the series a 66% score.

The anthology sibling What If…? earned stronger reviews and holds an 85% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. ScreenRant’s Lewis Glazebrook rated Marvel Zombies 6 out of 10.

What reviewers praised

Critics highlighted the series’ action sequences. Many noted that heroes used their abilities in new, violent ways.

Those sequences helped the show stand apart from the mainline MCU. Reviewers saw merit in its inventive use of familiar characters.

Cast and MCU connections

The season featured voice returns from several MCU actors. The story builds on a What If…? episode from that show’s first season.

  • Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop
  • Elizabeth Olsen as the Scarlet Witch
  • Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova
  • David Harbour as Alexei Shostakov
  • Iman Vellani as Ms. Marvel
  • Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie
