UK Supermarkets Recall Contaminated Meat Item: Shoppers Urged Not to Eat

Filmogaz.com reports that The Curing Barn has recalled its 60g British Bresaola. The company issued a clear do not eat warning after tests detected Listeria monocytogenes.

Product details and affected batches

The recall covers 60g packs of British Bresaola. Affected batch codes are WLRC, J1Z2, 0WD0 and J85J.

The use-by date for the recalled packs is 10 June 2026. The product is sold at Tesco for £4.50.

Announcement and return information

The Food Standards Agency announced the recall on 5 April 2026. The FSA issued a risk notice for the affected product.

Customers who bought the impacted packs should not eat them. Shoppers can return the item to the place of purchase for a full refund without a receipt.

Health risks and symptoms

The FSA warns that Listeria monocytogenes can cause symptoms similar to flu. These include high temperature, muscle aches, chills, vomiting and diarrhoea.

  • In rare cases, infection can lead to serious complications such as meningitis.
  • Those most at risk include people aged over 65, pregnant women and their unborn babies, infants under one month, and people with weakened immune systems.

Advice to shoppers

Do not eat the affected packs. Instead, return them to Tesco for a refund.

The incident adds to UK supermarkets’ recalls involving a contaminated meat item. Public guidance has shoppers urged not to eat the affected product while investigations continue.

What a recall means

The FSA explains that a withdrawal removes products from sale. A recall asks consumers to return products already sold.

The agency issues Product Recall Information Notices to inform local authorities and the public. In some cases it issues a Food Alert for Action with specific instructions for local enforcement.
