Colorado Golfer to Compete at Augusta National Ahead of Masters
Fifteen-year-old Peyton Landon of Timnath has earned a spot at the Drive, Chip and Putt national finals. The Colorado golfer will compete at Augusta National ahead of the Masters on April 5, 2026.
Road to Augusta
Landon advanced through three qualifying stages to reach the finals. She finished third at the local event at Fort Collins Country Club.
She then placed second at the subregional round at Thorncreek Golf Course in Thornton. In October, Landon won the regional at Hazeltine National Golf Club. She scored 140 points to claim that title.
About the Drive, Chip and Putt finals
The national finals feature 80 qualifiers from across the country. Ten girls in the 14-15 age division qualified for this stage. This marks the 12th annual Drive, Chip and Putt finals.
- Driving happens on Augusta’s driving range.
- Chipping takes place around the practice greens.
- Putting is contested on the famed 18th green.
The finals are scheduled for April 5, 2026, the day before Masters week begins.
Preparation and background
Landon plays much of her golf at Ptarmigan Country Club. She has worked on putting surfaces set to a Stimpmeter of at least 13. Her training includes a practice mat and a very steep downhill putt at her home course.
Her mother, Eileen, estimates Peyton practices more than 30 hours weekly. Peyton grew up around courses in Northern California and moved to Ptarmigan in 2018. Her father, Tim, introduced her to the game.
Growing passion and future goals
Landon did not always love golf. She became more invested after trying out for a sixth-grade team. Now she competes for Timnath and already has an event win and multiple runner-up finishes.
Her ambitions include playing college golf and joining the LPGA Tour. She also hopes to watch top professionals during Masters week, including Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy.
What the Augusta visit will mean
The trip offers more than competition. Landon will experience the drive down Magnolia Lane and a dinner at the Augusta National clubhouse. She will also observe players preparing for one of golf’s most exclusive majors.
The Augusta National Women’s Amateur runs April 1-4, followed by Drive, Chip and Putt on April 5. The Masters tournament then takes center stage for the following week.
