President Henry B. Eyring Leads ‘Prayers for Peace’ Event
President Henry B. Eyring spoke during the Saturday morning session of the April 2026 general conference. He focused on finding peace through sincere prayer.

About President Henry B. Eyring
He serves as first counselor in the First Presidency. He has been a general authority for nearly forty years.
He was called to the Presiding Bishopric in 1985 and to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in 1995. He later served as a counselor to four Church presidents.
His counselor assignments included service under President Gordon B. Hinckley from 2007 to 2008. He then served with President Thomas S. Monson from 2008 to 2018, and with President Russell M. Nelson from 2018 to 2025. In 2025 he began serving with President Dallin H. Oaks.
Background and family
He led Ricks College, now BYU–Idaho, as its 10th president from 1971 to 1977. His son, Henry J. Eyring, later served as BYU–Idaho’s 17th president from 2017 to 2023.
While studying at Harvard, he met Kathleen Johnson during a summer program. They married in the Logan Utah Temple in July 1962 and raised six children.
Sister Kathleen Johnson Eyring passed away in October 2023.
