Grand National Odds: Expect These 20-1, 33-1, 40-1 Horses to Shorten

Grand National Odds: Expect These 20-1, 33-1, 40-1 Horses to Shorten

The Randox Grand National is the headline betting race of the jumps season. It runs at Aintree at 4.00 on Saturday, with a £1 million prize on offer. Filmogaz.com has identified three runners that could see their Grand National Odds shorten before the off.

Nick Rockett (20-1)

Nick Rockett is the 20-1 shot that headlines this trio. He won last year’s Grand National and is trained by Willie Mullins.

He returned at Down Royal last month and finished third on his first start in almost a year. He runs off a mark 4lb higher than last season, but that run suggested improved fitness. Expect wagering interest to grow, and his price could fall sharply.

Quai De Bourbon (33-1)

Quai De Bourbon has seen support in recent days and is around 33-1 after trading as big as 50-1. He is another Willie Mullins entry with clear upside.

Last season he was unseated and brought down in Grade 1 novice chases at Cheltenham and Aintree. He closed out the campaign with third in the Irish National behind Haiti Couleurs. At the published National weights he is 22lb better off with that rival. After two early pull-ups this season, he posted a career-best Racing Post Rating of 154 in a Listed handicap at Leopardstown last month. He is entered to run off 10st 9lb and looks an intriguing each-way option.

Perceval Legallois (40-1)

Perceval Legallois stands at about 40-1 and is the biggest-priced of JP McManus’s seven entries. McManus also owns some of the market principals.

He won consecutive big-field handicaps at Leopardstown previously and was joint-third favourite at around 10-1 for last year’s National. He fell at the first fence on Valentine’s Day last year. This season he has had two starts. He was pulled up in the Coral Gold Cup at Newbury and finished fourth behind Heart Wood in the New Year’s Day Chase at Tramore. He returns to the National off a 2lb lower mark and could attract each-way support.

What to watch in the market

With Grand National Odds shifting in the days before the race, these three horses to shorten merit attention. Nick Rockett, Quai De Bourbon and Perceval Legallois each have clear reasons to attract money.

Keep an eye on late money and jockey bookings. That activity often signals genuine support for outsiders in the big race.
