Phillies Dominate Rockies 10-1 with Three Home Runs in Series Opener

The Philadelphia offense awoke in Denver and produced a decisive victory. The Phillies dominated Colorado, winning 10-1 and launching three home runs in the series opener.

Early onslaught sets tone

Philadelphia sent 11 batters to the plate in the first inning. Trea Turner opened with a double off former Phillie Michael Lorenzen.

Turner added an RBI single later in the frame and finished 3-for-4. His average rose from .192 to .250 after the game.

Power through the lineup

Every starter except Justin Crawford recorded a hit. The club totaled 13 hits, seven of which exceeded 98 mph in exit velocity.

The wind blew out to right field, favoring left-handed pull hitters. Brandon Marsh, Bryce Harper, and Kyle Schwarber each homered.

Marsh’s milestone and big swings

Brandon Marsh launched a sinker from Lorenzen 454 feet for a three-run shot. That was the longest homer of his career.

The trio of long balls helped build an early lead. Colorado never recovered.

Pitching performance

Aaron Nola delivered a strong start. He worked 6 1/3 innings, allowing five hits, one run, and one walk while striking out nine.

Nola’s curveball induced nine swings-and-misses. His four-seam fastball generated five strikeouts looking.

Only run and relief work

Colorado’s lone run came in the fourth inning. Nola allowed two singles, then Willi Castro checked a swing and poked a soft grounder into play.

Bryson Stott’s only play of the inning was a throw to first, which allowed Mickey Moniak to score. Nola then struck out Brenton Doyle to end the threat.

Relievers Kyle Backhus, Tim Mayza, and Zach Pop finished the game without allowing a hit. The bullpen preserved the shutout after Nola exited.
