Tesla Reintroduces Third Row, Costs UK Families £12,500

Tesla has added a seven-seat option for the Model Y in the UK. The seven-seat Model Y is priced at £54,490.

Filmogaz.com reported the update on April 3, 2026, citing Chris Chilton. The extra seats are only offered on the Long Range AWD trim.

Pricing and what it means for buyers

The third-row option costs £2,500 above the regular Model Y. Buyers must also choose the Long Range All-Wheel Drive trim, which adds about £10,000.

Combined, the upgrades effectively cost UK families £12,500 if they move up from the entry-level single-motor model. The total premium brings the seven-seat Model Y to the £54,490 figure.

Performance and range

The Long Range twin-motor setup delivers brisk acceleration. Tesla’s figures show a 0–60 mph time near 4.6 seconds.

Tesla’s online configurator lists a WLTP range of 391 miles (630 km). UK outlets report the seven-seat layout may reduce range to about 372 miles (599 km).

Space, practicality and limitations

With all seven seats deployed, the car still holds a couple of carry-on suitcases. The Model Y retains extra storage in the frunk.

Folding the rearmost seats restores a large cargo bay. Tesla notes the third row is best suited to children rather than adults.

There are no Isofix anchor points in the back row, limiting child-seat options. Rear passengers do get USB-C ports and cupholders for convenience.

Market context and competition

The seven-seat option already exists in the US and parts of Europe. Its UK return aims to attract larger families and regain lost sales.

The Model Y faces rival three-row EVs such as the Peugeot E-5008 and Mercedes EQB. Tesla’s Model Y had fallen out of the UK top ten in 2025, despite receiving a facelift.

Availability and next steps

Customers can configure the seven-seat Model Y through Tesla’s online tool in the UK. Exact delivery timelines depend on local ordering and production schedules.

This update gives family buyers a new option in the Model Y range. Whether it will restore Tesla’s sales momentum remains to be seen.
