Northeastern Stabbing Suspect Faces Court Appearance
Boston police arrested a 58-year-old man Wednesday following a morning stabbing near Northeastern University. Officers said surveillance footage led them to a suspect on Huntington Avenue.
Arrest and charges
Police identified the man as Stephen Dantzler, 58, of Boston. He is charged with Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon.
Dantzler is expected to make a court appearance at Boston Municipal Court. Prosecutors will present the charges during arraignment.
Incident and campus response
The altercation occurred at about 8:15 a.m. outside Symphony Market on Huntington Avenue. Investigators say two men fought and one pulled a knife, stabbing the other before fleeing.
The injured person entered a Northeastern building at 291 Botolph Street to seek aid. Campus police provided immediate assistance until paramedics arrived.
Officials sent an emergency alert telling students to avoid the building as officers searched for the attacker. Students attend classes in the basement of that facility.
Community concern
Some students said they were alarmed because another stabbing happened nearby less than a week earlier. A student identified as Higgins said two incidents in a short span raised safety concerns.
Students also questioned the visible police presence and the decision to keep classes in session. Campus leaders have not announced any class cancellations.
Ongoing investigation
Boston police continue to investigate the scene and the circumstances of the dispute. Detectives used surveillance video to locate and arrest the suspect on Huntington Avenue.
